Will the BMP file be much larger than the JPG?
Yes. BMP files are 5–20x larger than equivalent JPG files. A 500 KB JPG (1920×1080) becomes approximately 6 MB as BMP. This is because BMP stores raw, uncompressed pixel data.
Does converting JPG to BMP improve quality?
No. Conversion cannot recover quality lost during JPG compression. The BMP will contain the same pixel data as the JPG, just stored in uncompressed format. No new detail is added.
What bit depth does the output BMP use?
Default output is 24-bit BMP (16.7 million colors). 32-bit BMP with alpha channel is available as an option. 8-bit (256 colors) and 16-bit options exist for specialized uses.
Does Windows still use BMP?
Yes. BMP remains the native bitmap format for Windows API. Windows clipboard operations use BMP internally. Many legacy enterprise applications require BMP input. Windows Paint still supports BMP.
